The name Steep is a nod to the app’s unique function: enabling users to immerse their interests into their physical surroundings through AR technology. Users pin posts to themselves in AR that are visible to others nearby, and these posts encourage real-life conversations away from the phone.

Steep is intended to be used by people visiting third places. So what are third places? A third place is any welcoming physical or virtual space that fosters meaningful connection. Some examples include cafés, bars, public libraries, gyms, etc.
